Hot Spotting: A Collaborative Alternative to Hot Seating
While many teachers are familiar with Hot Seating—where a single student sits in the "hot seat" to be grilled by the class—this can be a daunting experience for younger or less confident learners. Hot Spotting offers a more supportive, ensemble-based approach that keeps the momentum of the story alive. It's a natural progression from Action Clip.
This video shows Hot Spotting in action on one of my one-day courses. The group of teachers have made a freeze frame of a pair of evacuee children arriving in a new village and being allocated foster parents. One of them is also playing an object from the journey.
